Private school

Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English!

Today Abigail and Liliane talk about private school education in the UK.

An educational charity called The Sutton Trust has just published a report that looked at the educational background of 1700 leading scholars and scientists.

It found that 42% of them went to private schools.

The study also discovered that over half of these scholars and scientists studied at Oxford or Cambridge universities.

Sir Peter Lampl, the chairman of the Sutton Trust says that this is an example of uneven life chances in the UK.

He feels that people from the independent sector are more likely to succeed in popular professions and influential walks of life.

This is because their families could afford to send them to expensive private schools when they were young and this gave them more opportunities to advance in life.

The study also found that students from more affluent backgrounds usually went to universities that specialised in research, and this helped those students become leaders in their fields.

To make things fairer for people, the report suggests that it should be a priority to provide the same opportunities for intelligent and bright young children who come from poor backgrounds.

In Jordan, the private school education is much better than the education provided by governmental schools, surprisingly, the opposite is true with the universities; private university in here is not as good as that of governmental funded universities!
More funds are provided by our government to their few established universities than what they can provide to their several schools in side the kingdom. The fund that the private sector can afford to their universities is much lesser.

Yes also there are many private school education in my country but not like UK some of them for average income and some for affluent . But there are private school for ministers and businessman . Recently, the private education became very imortant sector in education. Twenty years ago most sudnese family were proud to send thier children to puplic school but, as education satandard declines over years either by lack of money , qulifed teacher or schools. They started looking for better education . As we all know private school is very expensive espically for biger family or for poor ones that why they scrafies by sending their kids to public school but they offering privte tutours.
