الذكرى الثامنة عشرة لوفاة فريدي مركوري

Freddie Mercury

Today Rob and Reda talk about the 18th anniversary of the death of Freddie Mercury, one of the world's most famous musicians.

Even though he is famous as a British singer, Freddie Mercury was born Farukh Bulsara in Zanzibar, to parents from the Indian city of Mumbai.

After going to boarding school in India, Freddie moved with his family to West London in 1964 where he pursued his passion for music.

Developing into an internationally renowned musician, Freddie became known as a flamboyant and glamorous singer and the area he used to live in as a young man, Feltham, was very different to the new life he made for himself.

Feltham in West London, is an area which is also famous for something not as glamorous or exciting as Freddie Mercury; the Feltham young offenders institution.

The town will be celebrating Freddie's life and is preparing a star set in one of its pavements, just like those seen in Hollywood.

Freddie's 87 year old mother Jer Bulsara told the BBC how proud she is of her son and what he achieved.

She said that Freddie "used to love playing records all the time and sing any kind of music - classical, folk, classical or Indian music".

From a young age, Freddie would write music and songs and he wrote some of his most famous songs in his old house in Feltham.

Even after he became famous, Freddie would still visit his mother and father in Feltham and the people of the area would be very excited to see Freddie come out of his Rolls Royce outside his old home.

He also stayed faithful to his mother's cooking and during long recording sessions with his band, her cheese biscuits would see him through the night.

Freddie Mercury had millions of fans from all around the world and 18 years after his death, people in Feltham still remember him as one of their famous sons.

I love Queen and Freddie Mercury very much, and I think that what he achieved changes the face of the music. Still today you will see a young people who never lived on the 70s or 80s like me sing with " Bohemian Rhapsody " or " We are the Champions ". Thanks Freddie for all you give.
