"الصين والهند " قوة اقتصادية واعدة

China

Hello! Welcome to BBC Xtra English!

Today Doug and Inas talk about two great Asian countries heading for super-power status.

These two super-powers of the future are collectively known as Chindia – a made- up word from the names of these two countries.

The two countries have a troubled past, with a war and border disputes, but this week they are co-operating and have signed a huge 100 billion US dollar trade deal.

The Chinese leader Wen Jiabao is in India with a very large trade delegation who are negotiating doing business worth 100 billion US dollars before 2015.

The trade imbalance between the two countries moment means that China exports more products to India than the other way round, so India wants to sell more of its products to China.

Products which are already international brand-leaders for India such as pharmaceuticals, agro-commodities and IT services, are yet to be exported to China.

India is trying to catch up with China and is already expected to overtake them in terms of population.

Despite their troubled history they are willing to co-operate when it comes to trade, however some aspect of rivalry still remains in places like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

The two countries are said to be vying for power.
China has invested in Bangladesh with infrastructure development and the building of a deep-sea port in the Indian Ocean.

In the programme Doug explains that the relationship between the two countries will be very important to everyone’s future.

We also hear from the BBC correspondent Jill McGivering saying that there are underlying tensions as the two giants compete internationally for resources and new markets. On the surface however, it looks like the two are getting along just fine!

We’re interested to know if China or India has an influence on where you live. Are Chinese or Indian companies doing business in your town or city?
