ما هي التحديات التي تواجه العسكريين بعد تركهم الخدمة؟

Hello and welcome to BBC Xtra English!

Today we are talking about how soldiers are taken care of after they leave the army.

In the UK, the Ministry of Defence is responsible for the armed forces and provides soldiers with help and support once they decide to leave the army.

The BBC's Newsbeat programme has spoken to some soldiers to find out how they found the change from military to civilian life.

Because soldiers are so used to fixed routines, the transition or change can be very challenging from them.

Chris Churcher was in the Royal Tank Regiment for 12 years, joining straight after school.

He said that dealing with civilian life has been a massive challenge for him and even the way that civilians talk is like a different language to him.

To help soldiers fit into civilian life, the Ministry of Defence runs career-transition workshops to help them develop skills for life outside the ministry.

They offer lessons on how to write CV’s as well as information about how to enter different careers.

This information is useful for members of the armed forces who have never needed to think of entering different careers before or even prepare a CV.

But a charity called Remount is concerned that the government is not doing enough to support ex-military personnel with psychological changes and how to deal with their emotions.

They say veterans need support to adapt to life outside the army – especially in the early days after leaving.

What are the challenges that face military personnel when they leave the army? Write to us in English!

I think the government didn’t pay attention to the former soldiers. Even though working in the army is risking your life, society considers you failed to succeed in life, they do not consider it as nationalism or patriotic.

The challenge is that society undermines and underestimates the knowledge they have and people are see them as troublemakers and antisocial.

Komdan, Sudan

I was been in military for 17 years and when i leave it i face problem to adapt wthe normal life but its need time to acclimatize your self.

Elfadil Eltejani, Darfur, Sudan

My dad is ex-military in army after he exit from the military service he tried to enter any job but he face some problem like ( he can’t market himself, he hasn’t work experience in any civilization work because in army had work a special tasks as you know, the age is long ) that’ difficult challenges faced my dad.

Hisham, Cairo, Egypt

This is very important issue that should be deeply discussed, enriched and tackled. The same challenges face the Palestinian political prisoners who spent years behind bars and who find it difficult to adapt to the normal life after releasing from prison. As an ex-prisoner it was great challenge to live a normal social life among my peers and relatives, I found life a kind of chaos and imbalance, people were very fat comparing to my thin body. They do not respect order, discipline or routine.

Khader, Beit Jala
