  • Chrysler Group unveils track-spec SRT Viper TA

Ahead of an official debut during the New York auto show press previews on 27 March, the 2014 SRT Viper TA has broken cover. The TA (for “Time Attack”) features a host of revisions with a single aim: trimming lap times. A revised suspension features settings for rough or smooth tracks, and the huge Brembo brakes dissipate heat better during intense use. Outside, the TA gets a carbon fibre aero package and, because every ounce counts, a host of weight saving touches — including the use of decals in place of emblems. SRT plans to build just 33 examples of this 640-horsepower beast, every last one of them painted “TA Orange”. Look for BBC Autos’ full coverage of the Viper TA from the show floor at New York’s Jacob Javits Center. drivesrt.com (Chrysler Group)

  • Honda installs fuel-cell array at its California HQ

Hydrogen fuel cells have lately fallen off the front page, but Honda still believes. The company, which in 2008 put the fuel-cell-powered FCX Clarity on the roads of Southern California, has just installed a one-megawatt stationary fuel-cell array at its 101-acre campus in Torrance, California. Comprised of five “energy servers”, the array converts natural gas to electricity, providing 25% of 1.13-million-square-foot headquarters’ power requirement. honda.com (American Honda)
