Rusko is Jam Hot (Week 1)
It's the first full week of 2009 and we kick off with a HUGE record as this week's Jam Hot record of the week. Potentially my favourite dubstep record EVER - Rusko's 'Cockney Thug'.
23 year old Christopher Mercer aka Rusko is from Leeds. After graduating from Leeds university with a degree in musical performance, he was introduced to dubstep through the legendary Leeds dubstep night SUB DUB and a debut appearance from the "Digital Mystikz" - Mala & Coki. Having spent the previous 10 years making future dub alongside Leeds very own Iration Steppas, Rusko connected with the dubstep sound and moved down to London to further advance his musical opportunities with Sub Soldiers label mate Caspa. His remixes for Adele's 'Cold Shoulder' and Leon Jean Marie's 'Bring It On' were on heavy rotation on my show last year as was 'Cockney Thug'.
The record was originally released on the Babylon EP in 2007 and became a dubstep anthem so big, it's being re-released as a single in Feb/March. It samples a line from the Armando Ianucci show spoken by the actor Alan Ford (famous for the character Brick Top in Guy Richie's film Snatch). Rusko will be passing by the 1Xtra Towers tomorrow just after 8.30pm and will be dropping a very sick guest mix and we'll find out what makes him tick! In the meanwhile, click on Rusko's picture to check out his myspace.

Last Jam Hot of 08 - NZ R&B!
Every week I have a record of the week on my show that I call my Jam Hot and this week it's the last Jam Hot of 2008 so I've literally gone to the other side of the world to bring you this record - a great slab of New Zealand R&B courtesy of DJ/Producer P Money featuring Vince Harder called "Everything" and I love it. When released in New Zealand, it spent 3 weeks at #1 in their main chart and is now certified platinum - pretty good for a digital only release!
P-Money is an award winning DJ and Producer from New Zealand who has released 4 albums since 2002 and has produced tracks for a number of International and New Zealand based artists. Check his blog here (good reading!)
Vince Harder is a Samoan actor and singer who was in the Australian X Factor in 2005 and also has played Simba in the Oz version of 'The Lion King' musical. The man has got a really good voice and is doing well down under.
The record itself was put on my radar thanks to my man Zane Lowe at Radio 1 (cheers Zipper!) but it currently has no UK label or release schedule - you can however buy it on your favourite fruit based tune download system!

Silver & Gold - The Video
Sway was unveiled as my Artist of The Year 2008 last week (if you missed the video of me chatting about Sway, check it here) and as if to prove my points, this week sees the release of the HUGE video for Silver & Gold - his next single and collaboration with multi-platinum selling Senegalese giant of black music - Akon:
Gwan Sway, big tings to come from him in '09 - memba I told ya!

Kyla - Do You Mind
Finally, the funky house anthem that is Do You Mind is getting released! 26th January it will see the light of day and random girls in clubs who ask me to play "that record that goes the whole night" will hopefully finally learn the title.
Shouts to DJ Cameo wearing the hoodie in the video I spoke about here...

Free Beyoncé Download
A few weeks ago Beyoncé recorded a very special session for both Radio 1 and 1Xtra at the infamous BBC Maida Vale Studios and I was given the opportunity to sit down with "the hottest chick in the game" and chat about her new album "I Am...Sasha Fierce", her forthcoming film "Cadillac Records" and many other things including potentially working with Amy Winehouse and Adele; how she may do a reggae album next and who Sasha Fierce is.
Take a listen here:
And if you want it to be on your computer/mp3 player you can download it here!

New vids from the Stryderman for his new single 'Take Me Back' - one of a slew of hot records due to be released on my birthday (January 19th and yes, I expect a gift)
Also features vocals from the one and only Taio Cruz. In case you missed it, check the interview I did with Tinchy (and Craig David) at the MOBOs.
