To build one of the world’s largest companies, it takes ambition, luck and a fair share of mistakes. Yes, mistakes.
Blunders and gaffes are part of the learning process, says Italian-born Stefano Pessina, executive chairman of Switzerland-based Alliance Boots, who adds that he’s made a few.
Pessina, who is also the largest single shareholder in American pharmacy chain, Walgreens, brought his family’s flagging pharmaceutical business back from the brink to form Alliance UniChem Group. In 2006, the company merged with UK chain Boots Group. Now the Boots empire has more than 100,000 employees and pharmacies around the globe.
Pessina visits the Hot Seat to talk about why he’s not motivated by money, how to have a happy life while leading a fast-growing global company, what he hopes his legacy will be and his biggest regrets and career mistakes. Click on the image above to watch.
