Sock Monsters!

Step 1
Lay sock flat on table and shape heel into a mouth

Lay the sock out flat on a table.

Push a finger into the centre of the heel and then mould the fabric to make a mouth.

Step 2
Thread your needle and use a running stich to sew a border around the edge of the heel - creating lips.

Ask an adult to help thread your needle and use a running stitch to sew a border around the edge of the heel - creating lips. Finish the stiches by sewing through the same stitch a few times to make it secure.

Step 3
Sew the buttons on above the lips in the positions you'd like the eyes to be. Add as many eyes as you like!

Take one of the buttons and sew on securely above the lips, where you want your eyes to be. Then sew on more buttons, giving your monster as many eyes as you want.

Step 4
Cut from the top of the sock in straight line to about halfway down. Cut about 4 cms across the bottom of the sock – put aside the bit you have cut off. Cut upwards from the bottom of the sock person to about 2 cms under the lips. These will be the legs.

Ask an adult to help, take the scissors and cut from the top of the sock in straight line to about halfway down. Then cut about 4 cms across the bottom of the sock. Put aside the bit you have cut off - you will need this snippet to make the arms.

Step 5
Take the bit you have cut off and cut it in half downwards, these two bits will be the arms

Take the snippet you put aside and cut it in half downwards. You will now have two pieces – these are the arms.

Now, cut upwards from the bottom of the sock person to about 2 cms under the lips. These will be the legs.

Step 5
Cut the bit you put aside straight down the middle. Turn these two bits inside out and sew along the long edge

Take one arm and turn it inside out. Sew along the long edge only. Turn it the right way round. Do the same for the other arm.

Turn sock inside out. Sew all the bottom edges up. Sew from the top of each ear down to the head but leave a 2 cm gap each side. This is for the stuffing.

Step 6
Turn the main sock piece inside out and sew the edges up, leaving a gap (about 2cm) at one edge.

Turn the monster back the right way round and using the small hole that you left stuff the monster with cotton wool or soft toy stuffing. Use lots of stuffing to make it really squishy. When you have finished, sew up the gap.

Step 7
Turnt he monster back the right way round, and stuff the monster with cotton wool or soft toy stuffing. Sew up the gap.

Stuff each arm and sew up the ends - now sew them onto the sides of your monsters body.

Step 8
Stuff each arm and seww onto the side of the monster
