Vancouver International Film Festival is among the five largest in North America, screening films on 10 screens from at least 80 countries. The festival screens the widest choice of East Asian films outside the region, and it also has one of the biggest documentary programs.

Although you need to be a member to attend, it is still accessible - annual membership is $2, and you can register online or in person and must be over 18. Last year, though, the closing gala film was open to everyone, showing on a 50-ft screen at the Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts.
