This year sees the 70th Venice International Film Festival, organised by the Venice Biennale – the major contemporary art show that takes place every two years. The film festival will be directed by Alberto Barbera and held at the Lido. Along with retrospectives and tributes, the festival promotes international cinema in all forms - as art, entertainment and industry.
Opening the festival this year is the much-anticipated sci-fi movie Gravity directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Y Tu Mama Tambien and Children of Men). It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as engineer and veteran astronaut on a space-shuttle mission that goes scarily wrong.
