For a chic, Alpine classical music fix, look no further than the Gstaad New Year Music Festival. There are 14 performances to see by international artists and young talent in and around the picturesque Alpine town over new  year.

Artistic director Caroline Murat, organises an innovative programme annually. Collaborative projects with music organisations, charities and arts groups are a big part of the programme, and the 2014 festival will feature a celebration of Monaco with an evening at the Gstaad Yacht Club, along with a homage to Russian culture with an Orthodox choir in the St Niklaus chapel on the Gstaad Promenade. From 2013, the programme is being extended to reach Venice, Italy with a new weekend event in October.
