World-class conductor Valery Gergiev, who is the founder and artistic director of the Red Sea Classical Music Festival, turns 60 this year, and so the event is expected to be celebratory in tone. The director of the Mariinsky Opera House in St Petersburg, Gergiev has developed the event in Eilat, which has become a major date in the city’s calendar, along with the jazz festival.

In addition to concerts by leading orchestras and choirs, the programme includes chamber music programme, dance performances and lectures.
