Su Xiaobai’s large-scale canvases are influenced by abstract expressionist colour theory, and bridge the political boundaries between East and West. The work resonates with Chinese themes, and features the traditional Chinese material of lacquer, long associated with Chinese antique furniture and craft. Born in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Su Xiaobai pursued his postgraduate studies in Dusseldorf, and has been living and working in Germany since the early 1990s.
