The Chinese Opera Festival attracts celebrated artists from all over China every year. Blending tradition and innovation, it is a key annual event in Hong Kong’s cultural calendar.

A varied mix of genres are on offer, including Cantonese opera, which as a genre is on the list of UNESCO’s  Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Hong Kong has a long connection with Cantonese opera and in recent decades has been at the centre of its rejuvenation, which, with its dramatic and beautiful costumes, make up and stage designs, is becoming increasingly popular.
