Mozart’s opera Idomeneo, based on an Ancient Greek story, is performed at Milan’s Scala in May. Written in Italian the piece was first performed in Munich in 1781 when Mozart was 24 years old, and is widely considered to be the first of the composer’s great operas. In the Scala’s production, the title role is performed by Bernard Richter, while Elektra is sung by Frederica Lombardi.
