Byzantium puts the fear back into vampires

The teen vampires of the Twilight franchise have been relegated to the grave – and Neil Jordan is bringing the genre back to the gothic with his new film, Byzantium.

Jordan was of course behind the box office success of Interview with the Vampire, which combined the acting talents of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. His latest film Byzantium is an altogether smaller but no less engaging affair.

The two main protagonists here are an immortal mother and daughter pairing, played by Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan, who wander from town to town seeking solace while being pursued by a mysterious and ancient brotherhood.

Talking Movies’ Al Moloney speaks to the director and the stars.
