Milan Fashion Week kicks off in glamorous style

  • Blast off

Fausto Puglisi’s runway show was a startlingly graphic statement, with bold blocks of colour influenced by the work of artists Sonia Delaunay and Kazimir Malevich. • Rock out

Gucci’s trademark glamour was on view, with some late ‘60s and early ‘70s touches that recalled the label’s heritage. Shearling jackets in dusky pinks and pale blues were styled over suits and soft leather shirts added an elegant rock-chick vibe. (Getty Images)

  • Youth quake

There were swinging ‘60s references galore at Gucci, as designer Frida Giannini sent models down the runway in animal-print, mustard yellow and claret red, plus some leather pieces . Dresses were a-line cut with above-the-knee hemlines, presenting a silhouette that was trim and youthful. (Getty Images)

  • Booty call

In an innovative hybrid, Gucci’s signature horsebit loafer was merged with a patent leather knee-high boot. With a towering but solid heel, the luxe boots made a strong, glamorous statement. (Getty Images)

  • Burning love

There was a burnt orange palette at Alberta Ferretti, with the designer’s usual attention to intricate detail on display. With appliqué and devore details, the show’s theme was ‘a metamorphosis of nature and woman.’ (Getty Images)

  • Smart set

Max Mara’s collection emphasised the brand’s trademark tailoring with sophisticated, long-line camel coats, some belted. There were also plenty of gold hues on display, plus some use of leather and PVC. Soft textures and an earthy palette made for an elegant but wearable collection. (Getty Images)

  • To have and to hold

Fendi’s speciality has long been exquisite bags, and the latest collection is no exception. Models clutched a variety of arm candy as they walked the runway, including eye-catching designs in fur.(Getty Images)

  • Super trooper

Cara Delevingne took to the catwalk for Karl Lagerfeld’s Fendi collection, in a show-stopping coat with outsized fur hood. The influential British supermodel has been a strong presence at this season’s shows. (Getty Images)
