Online ownership: Does personal data belong to us?

Joining a social network or website often involves handing over a varying amount of personal data, but what happens if you decide you want to leave?

Is it possible to erase the content, or do companies like Facebook and Google actually own it?

David Reid reports on the new European Commission directive that aims to put you back in charge of your data.
