One of the most radical developments in recent years are wearable robots that can help people with spinal injuries and lower body paralysis to stand and walk.
The Ekso device – so named because it resembles an exoskeleton – was originally developed by the American military to give its soldiers superhuman strength. But the team behind the technology soon realised its wider potential.
Saima Mohsin travels to Berkeley, California where she meets the team from Ekso Bionics and sees the intelligent technology in action.
She also meets Jason and Amanda, who are being taught how to use the suits and are beginning to learn to walk again.
