Foldable plug updates a decades-old design

The UK power plug has changed little in more than 60 years. BBC Future finds out how one company created a 21st Century version to fix one basic flaw.

Successful designs can come from unlikely inspirations. For Min-Kyu Choi, it was a scratch on his laptop from a power plug which caused him to go to the drawing board.

The Korean designer took the UK-style power plug – virtually unchanged since it came into use in 1947 – and turned it into a foldable version called Mu. A phone charger using the foldable concept is now available to buy in the UK.

Choi and business partner Matthew Judkins talk to BBC Future about how their award-winning redesign got off the ground.
