Probing the neuroscience of a rebellious streak

Easily influenced by your peers, or rebel without a care? There may be a way to identify your true rebellious streak by peering at brain activity.

Do you conform to those around you, or rebel against the crowd? By peering at the brain’s activity, it may be possible to test whether an individual will be influenced by peer pressure or not.

Evolutionary biologist Dr Vasily Klucharev at the University of Basel in Switzerland claims that it is possible to identify rebels and conformists by studying what’s happening in their brain when under pressure from the crowd. Dallas Campbell of Bang Goes The Theory had his brain scanned to explore his own rebellious streak – but he soon realised that the experiment and his results were not what he expected.
