About the author

Richard Barber has been writing and publishing on the Arthurian legend since 1961; his first book, Arthur of Albion, is still in print in a revised edition, and as founder of Boydell & Brewer, he has helped to publish over 150 Arthurian titles. He has also published on medieval history and biography, and The Knight and Chivalry won the Somerset Maugham award in 1970. He is currently working on a study of Edward III and the knights of the Garter.
