About the author
David Crystal works from his home in Holyhead, North Wales, as an author, editor, lecturer, and broadcaster. Honorary professor of linguistics at the University of Wales, Bangor, his authored works are mainly in the field of language, but he is also editor of the Cambridge and Penguin families of general encyclopedias. Apart from the books listed above, his work on English includes Making Sense of English Grammar, The English Language, Pronouncing Shakespeare, The Shakespeare Miscellany (with Ben Crystal), and Dr Johnson's Dictionary.
