Suggest an Historic Figure

Many thanks for all your suggestions over the last six months. We had such a hard time choosing one figure for each month that we ended up selecting two extras. The final list comprises three great women - Catherine de Medici, Catherine the Great and Eleanor of Aquitaine; four figureheads of national self-determination - Michael Collins, Che Guevara, Nelson Mandela and William Wallace; and one man who left an indelible imprint on the shape of Europe - Charlemagne.
