Meet the volunteer crew and find out just what makes someone sign up for six weeks in an open boat. Follow the links below. ![]() Week one - the voyage beginsThe first week of the voyage sees the weather set to 'rainy' as 'Sea Stallion' sets off from Roskilde on the first leg of this epic adventure. The wind is behind them and they are off! ![]() Week two - frustrated by the weatherAfter a promising start the first week ended in frustration brought on by the weather. Hopes are high of setting off on the longest leg of the journey between Norway and the Scottish islands - but will the weather allow it? ![]() Week three - from Norway to the Scottish IslesThe weather has been against the voyage from the beginning and time is running out for the crew to get across the North Sea in time. Some hard decisions have to be made by Carsten, the ship's captain. ![]() Week four - around the Scottish IslesAfter continual adverse weather and much frustration the ship gets across the North Sea and is welcomed by the Scottish Isles, where some new crew members come aboard 'Sea Stallion'. Will the good sailing conditions last the week? ![]() Week five - heading southwardsGood sailing weather at last as the ship follows a path through the Scottish Isles towards Ireland. The worst July weather ever recorded has brought its frustrations and the crew look forward to an improvement as they head towards the end of the journey. The insects are starting to bite hard though. ![]() Week six - island hoppingAfter the frustrations of the first half of the journey, the good sailing continues as 'Sea Stallion' continues its journey through the Scottish Isles, across to the Isle of Man and on towards Ireland. The end is in sight, and as long as the weather isn't completely unsuitable the ship should make Dublin on time. ![]() Week seven - Dublin boundOver six weeks at sea and 'Sea Stallion' finally arrives on Irish soil. High seas, bad weather and broken rudder straps and sails have hampered progress and increased our knowledge of how the Vikings travelled the World. It's time for sad goodbyes as this epic journey draws to a close in Dublin. ![]() The Museum of the Viking ShipThe project to recreate one of five Viking warships found scuttled in Roskilde Fjord has been led by Denmark's Museum of the Viking Ship. The voyage from Roskilde to Dublin is the culmination of many years of hard work. The museum will also be tracking the ship's progress over the summer.
