A senior US official has said that President Obama will meet the leaders of ten Southeast Asian countries, including Burma, during his visit to Asia later this month. (November, 2009) The US ambassador to ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Scot Marciel, said President Obama would hold a meeting with ASEAN leaders on the sidelines of the forthcoming APEC summit in Singapore. A Burmese diplomat, Min Lwin, said the Burmese prime minister, Thein Sein, was expected to attend. Such a meeting would be the highest-level contact between the US and Burma for decades. (The Obama administration has begun a policy of greater engagement with Burma's military rulers, arguing that sanctions alone have failed to promote democracy or end human rights abuses.)

Pertemuan puncak APEC

Militiaman execution

A member of an Islamist militia in Somalia has been executed after shooting dead a local doctor who'd refused to stop smoking. Witnesses said Abdulkadir Mohamed Abdi had been trying to enforce the Somali rebels' ban on smoking in public. When the doctor refused to put out his cigarette, he shot him dead. Mr Abdi was convicted of murder by a local Islamic court and was himself shot dead by a member of the doctor's family at a public execution in the town of Afgoye, southwest of Mogadishu.

Eksekusi milisi

Ketika si dokter menolak mematikan rokoknya, dia menembaknya hingga tewas.
