Wildlife officials in Malaysia say ten endangered pygmy elephants have been found dead in Sabah state on the island of Borneo.

Officials suspect the elephants were poisoned at the Gunung Rara Forest Reserve in separate incidents this month.

In one case a three month-old calf was found trying to wake its dead mother.

Wildlife experts estimate that there are fewer than 1,500 Borneo pygmy elephants left in the wild. They are smaller than other Asian elephants.
