The Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta, has signed into law new legislation allowing men to marry as many wives as they want, despite criticism from women's groups and Christian leaders.

The bill was passed by parliament last month to formalise traditional practices.

Female members of parliament stormed out of the session after a furious debate.

The National Federation of Women Lawyers says it will mount a legal challenge.

A senior member of the International Olympic Committee has described Brazil's preparations for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro as the worst he has ever seen.

The IOC's vice president, John Coates, told an Olympic conference in Australia that construction was well behind schedule - and in some venues had not even begun.

But he warned there was no 'plan B' to find an alternative host.

He said the IOC had taken action to speed up preparations, but the situation on the ground was critical.

Preparations for the Rio games have been disrupted by delays, rising costs and poor communications between the Brazilian authorities and organizers.
