BBC Radio Jersey has been looking into the Howard League Report. Hear the interviews…

The Howard League for Penal Reform’s report on safeguarding the welfare and well-being of children and young people in Jersey’s penal system was published on Friday 14 November.

BBC Radio Jersey has been interviewing politicians and people connected with the welfare and well-being of children and young people in the island.

On Friday Roger Bara spoke to Senator Jim Perchard on the BBC Radio Jersey Breakfast programme.

Senator Perchard is the Minister with Special Responsibility for Child Welfare.

On Monday at 7.05am Roger spoke to Deputy Andrew Lewis, Minister for Home Affairs.

Then at 8.05am Roger spoke to Senator Mike Vibert, current Minister for Education, Sport and Culture.

Then on Tuesday Simon Bellwood, who was the Centre Manager at Greenfields from August 2006 spoke to Roger.

And on Wednesday Roger spoke to Jersey’s Chief Minister, Senator Frank Walker.

On Thursday at 7.05am Roger spoke to Senator Elect and former Magistrate Ian Le Marquand.

Then at 8.05 Roger was joined by Barbara Corbett, from Hanson Renouf law firm who are campaigning for the introduction of a Children's Commissioner for the island.

On Friday at 7.05 BBC Jersey went to meet residential services manager Joe Kennedy, the instigator of the Grand Prix system, at Greenfields.

Later in the piece below Sarah Scriven went to meet Chris Knight, now aged 20 who was at Les Chenes when he was 13.

Then at the end of the piece Sarah speaks to Michael Bowyer who is the current centre manager. He is a registered social worker and senior practitioner in mental health.

Later in the same programme BBC Jersey's Suzy Steer-Fowler asked Chris Knights where he thought young offenders had a more positive experience - at Greenfields or at La Moye.

Suzy also spoke to Paul Townsend who is the Residential Unit Manager of that Young Offenders wing.
