Nick's Blog - Heat 1

21st July 2008

Nick Knowles

Nick gives us his take on the show with his weekly blog.

Here he gives us his thoughts after the first heat show, including his reaction to the judges' decision:

Welcome

"Hey there folks, and welcome to my first blog!

"Well we've just finished recording the first heat show... Wow - what an electric atmosphere. It was absolutely amazing in there!

"Although the choirs were competing against each other, there was a real sense of them wanting each other to do well. It's really nice that you can hold a competition and when a choir goes out the others are all hugging them and wishing them well. It feels like no other competition I've been involved with. It's fantastic!

"The highlight for me so far has been being able to watch the whole process. I get to stand there and listen to the choirs rehearse, I can hear them sing six or seven times - or I'll stand outside the dressing rooms and listen to them practising. I just love being involved in it.

"The low point was definitely when we had to say goodbye to the three choirs.

Last Chance Songs

"It's tough for the three choirs who have to perform a Last Chance Song - really tough! You've got to stand up in front of people and just give it your all, knowing that this will make or break you. Ysgol Glanaethwy pulled it off. It was tough for the Alleycats to follow that, and Dreemz really tried their hearts out. Congratulations to Ysgol, it means so much to them and to Bangor and to their MD, Cefin, who has done an extraordinary job.

"Actually, there's something extraordinary about every single choir member! For example - the girl from the Alleycats has an amazing Joni Mitchell voice. Her Mum flew over from America to see her in the competition. And the Brighton Gay Men's Chorus were such fantastic entertainment and they were so gracious in defeat. You can go through every one and say something amazing about all of them.

Tough decision

"But unfortunately only two choirs could go through. It's really hard, and I wouldn't want to be a judge on this, I just can't pick.

"Lastly - I just thought I'd tell you that I think it's quite funny how Myleene and I are starting to act like a married couple! It's quite hilarious really because we disagree vehemently about lots of things - from the choirs to where we should stand - and yet we get on like a house on fire. From the moment I started she's been wonderful to work with and she's beautiful and intelligent, what's not to like?

Well that's all for this week... I'll be back after the next heat to tell you what I thought!

Love
