Kite surfing nature boy Murray is hooked on the adrenalin rush that only extreme sports can provide... even though he admits that his competitive nerves make him physically sick before any big contest.
The thing that I could not live without is the time to play.
MURRAY
Murray's fitness routine?
Simply that he can never sit still for a moment, so is always on the move.
On Last Man Standing Murray's hoping that facing up to a set of gym junkies won't show him up too much.
This cool cat longs to organise an expedition to the South Pole, kite surf to the North Pole... and break a few endurance records along the way.
Ultimately he simply wants to live life to the full, because for him, life is all about the stories.
We sent Murray a list of questions to dig a little deeper and find out what really makes him tick.
Here's what he had to say...
Describe your training regime:
Wake up check surf/weather report - if it's good take boat out and wakeboard or kite surf, if it's bad find something else to get the adrenal glands pumping!
Profession:
I finished a degree in Marine Engineering before I did Last Man Standing and now I'm on the hunt...
Do you have pets?
Whoa harsh question... my hound wiped out on his last wave a couple of months ago.
Do you currently have a girlfriend(s)?
Nope.
What's the one thing you can't live without?
The time to play.
What is your favourite sporting moment?
Almost breaking JJ's wrist kickfighting with a messed up knee. It sounds brutal but in a competition environment there is huge respect for one anouther.
Who is your sporting idol?
A guy called Laird Hamilton one of the pioneers of big wave surfing, this guy shreds waves designed by death.
What car do you drive?
I used to cruise in a green van, but moved onto a fibreglass beach buggy (which broke down four times in two weeks) and now I roll in a Suzuki which is great for bumper cars.
If not competing in Last Man Standing you'd be...
On the search for the ultimate challenge; my aim before was to break both the long distance kite surf record and the speed record to the North Pole.
Favourite song/singer/group:
The Who / Teenage Wasteland.
What has Last Man Standing meant to you?
It has given me the opportunity to experience some truly outrageous things, whether being beaten with sticks or doing a Waura parrott dance. Also the chance to simply go back to basics to gain a greater understanding into basic human nature and realising how happy people are with so little.
What other sports do you compete in?
Using 'compete' loosely; dinghy and yacht racing.
Greatest sporting achievement so far?
Survivng three rounds against Wolé with a 6ft Suri stick, I got off lightly with a limp and permanent scarring (he won't admit it but so did he!).
You wouldn't expect it from me but I love/am obsessed with...
Jaffa Cakes... although my obsession has moved onto Caramel bars.
What was your highlight of Last Man Standing?
Rugby tackling reindeers, with the added pleasure of eating their testicles...
How did you train to prepare for Last Man Standing?
I've always been generally fit due to my 'can't sit still' policy, so I just led my normal life.
What do you do to pass the time on your travels round the world?
Playing with the kids and persistently trying to imitate Jarvis' accent.
What's your favourite film/film star?
Surf's Up (surfing penguins, how is that not going to be entertaining?). Favourite actor is Will Smith.
What attracts you to your sport?
It's only through reflection that in a world of rules and boundaries, I have found a way to push and bend them, simply through the sports that I do.
What do you do in your spare time?
Search for the ultimate challenge and adventure, I have a huge urge to pioneer. I'm trying to get on a race to the South Pole and break some endurance records, but have a few financing issues.
Where did you grow up?
Back when I was a young whippersnapper I used to run riot in the green fields of Haselbury Plucknett in Somerset.
What qualities do you most value in your friends?
The courage to not be afraid of what they want, and how they have to get it.
What natural gift would you most like to possess?
The ability to talk to animals.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
Simply family and friends; they rock!
Which superhero are you most like?
Banana Man... naaaah, Batman! I like how rather than being given a super power he creates one, with persistence and passion.
Who is your ideal woman?
Ed's mum and Katherine Heigl!
Who is your role model?
Sir Edmund Hillary, and Ernest Shackleton - both intrepid explorers.
