Learning campaigns

BBC Learning campaigns offer opportunities for learning in the broadest sense, with the emphasis on active participation.

Building on the interest generated by broadcast programmes, these campaigns encourage and enable people in communities throughout the UK to learn more through taking part in events and activities developed with expert partners.

BBC Remembrance logo

1918-2008: Ninety Years of Remembrance commemorates the 90th anniversary of Armistice. With the aim of personalising the act of remembrance and bringing World War One vividly alive in the present, it features programming on BBC TV and radio and free local events across the country. The website encourages individuals and families to research their relatives' roles in the war and post their findings (letters, photographs and memories) on the wall of remembrance.

Breathing Places logo

Breathing Places is a five-year campaign to encourage people to create and protect nature-friendly spaces in their local areas. With support from broadcast natural history programmes, an extensive website and a network of more than 100 partners, the campaign has reached millions of people. Activities such as Springwatch festivals and tree parties have all inspired people to help wildlife and the natural environment in their own locality.

BBC Headroom logo

Other current campaigns include Headroom, a two-year campaign to encourage the widest possible audience to understand more about mental health and to take simple steps to look after their own mental wellbeing. The Headroom website aims to be one of the most accessible and comprehensive multi-media resources for mental wellbeing on the web.

Thread logo

Thread aims to raise young people's awareness of ethical fashion, encouraging them to consider a more sustainable approach to their own style. Linked to programmes on BBC Three, the campaign offers an online fashion magazine and in-depth fashion involvement via Blast.

me and my movie logo

me and my movie is a joint initiative between CBBC and BBC Learning which aims to inspire a younger age group to become junior film-makers. It builds on children's interest in digital media and supports them with free tips, resources and events – and the chance to win an award in association with BAFTA.

A new campaign for autumn 2008, Off by Heart aims to encourage primary school children to engage with learning and reciting poetry, and to connect with poetry in a fresh and exciting BBC Learning-led competition when every child aged 7-11 in UK primary education will have the opportunity to compete for the coveted title of UK poetry recital champion.

A campaign building on the BBC Three series Britain's Missing Top Model, Missing aims to challenge preconceptions of disability and beauty, disability within the world of fashion and the media, and our notions about what roles disabled people can play in society. The campaign is hosted by the BBC Learning Ouch! website.
