Watch: French scientist

The spider is awake! French scientist Joseph Browning explains the next steps he plans to take with La Machine over the weekend.

Watch: Scientist gets an offer of love

Joseph Browning, the French scientist who has been investigating the appearance of a giant spider in Liverpool, has become quite a celebrity.

Today he received a declaration of love from one local and explained his latest plans for the spider now he has managed to awaken it.

He says the second phase of waking the spider has begun.

His next step is to use a new musical composition to wake the spider more slowly.

If that goes well he will try more methods to bring the spider out of hibernation.
