Unsung Hero Award 2008

Liverpool's Olympic medallist David Price nominates his unsung sporting hero. Who would be yours?

Do you know an unsung hero who makes the world of difference to a sports club or team in your community?

Someone who gives their own time and effort for the love of the game?

Maybe it's a children's football team coach or a volunteer at a local gym.

At the 2008 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, held at Echo Arena Liverpool, there's the chance to honour an unsung hero of local sport.

Boxer David Price won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics and he has highlighted the role of Alan Lynch the Secretary of the Salisbury Amateur Boxing Club as an example of an unsung hero, "He's helped get a lot of young kids off the streets and give themselves a chance to make better lives for themselves," says David.

"You've got to start somewhere and when you start it's the likes of Alan who encourage you and give you the belief you can do something in the sport.

"Without him and people like him these places wouldn't exist."
