Bill Sergeant QPM is Chairman of the Noel Chavasse VC Memorial Association and has spent three years fundraising to erect a statue dedicated to those who received the Victoria Cross. The memorial called ‘Liverpool’s Heroes’ is not just about Noel Chavasse, although he features prominently because he won two Victoria Crosses in the First World War. Fifteen other men who were born in Liverpool and won the Victoria Cross are also commemorated.
