Man is shot and beaten in bedroom in Strabane

A 25-year-old man has been shot and beaten in a house in Strabane.

At about midnight the man was in bed with his partner when the front door of their Glebe Gardens home was forced and two masked men entered their bedroom.

The victim was beaten with a wooden bat as he lay in bed. One of the men also fired a number of shots from a handgun hitting the man in an arm and a leg.

His girlfriend, also aged in her 20s, was struck on the head during the attack. Both were taken to hospital.

The man is understood to have received two gunshot wounds, one to his upper left leg and one to his left arm, as well as a suspected broken right arm.

The woman received a bump to the head. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
