Failings in water used for washing and drinking have been found on North Sea oil and gas installations, the Health and Safety Executive has said.

Recent inspections identified a lack of control of Legionella bacteria in hot and cold water supplies offshore.

The HSE said it had taken formal enforcement action against the owners of the installations involved.

The bacteria can cause dangerous respiratory problems.
