E4 drama Skins is to be adapted into a feature film, scheduled for release next year, it has been announced.

Filming will begin in Bristol and the Isle of Man later this year and characters from the past four series are expected to return.

The show helped launch the careers of Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel, who both went on to star in Hollywood films.

But less than a million viewers tuned into the last episode in March.

Hoult, who played Tony Stonem, went on to appear in the Oscar-nominated A Single Man with Colin Firth and Dev Patel took the lead role in Oscar-winning-movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Uniquely, a completely new cast was sought for the third and fourth series after a cull of the original characters from the first two series.

Open auditions were recently held for the next series, which has already been commissioned.
