A 26-year-old man has been shot in the leg during an attack at a block of flats in Belfast.

The incident happened shortly before 2100 BST on Monday at Juniper Park in Twinbrook on the outskirts of the west of the city.

The man was taken to hospital where his injuries were thought to be not life-threatening.

Police said a 28-year-old woman who was also in the flat during the incident was not hurt.

SDLP Dunmurry Councillor Brian Heading said he believed the Continuity IRA had carried out the attack.

"The people of Twinbrook do not want vigilantes carrying out punishment attacks but instead want law and order and due process through the courts," he said.

"This type of attack is wrong, unjust and unfair and I call on those responsible to stop immediately."
