Air rescue for South Shields rock stranded men

Two men were rescued by helicopter after they became trapped on rocks.

The men, both in their 20s, were trapped by heavy, "choppy" seas near Trow Point, South Shields, on Monday.

A friend of the men alerted the coastguard at 1730 BST. The South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and a rescue helicopter were despatched.

Following the rescue, one of the men was treated for severe dehydration, the other for seasickness.
