Man, 20, charged with murder of teenager Zoe Nelson

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Lanarkshire teenager Zoe Nelson.

The 17-year-old's burned body was discovered in a field near Branchalfield Drive in Wishaw ten days ago.

Robert Bayne, 20, from Wishaw, appeared on petition at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody pending further examination.

Zoe, a student at Motherwell College, was seen leaving her Newmains home at 1700 BST on 22 May.

She was later seen on CCTV footage in a local store at about 1730 BST.

Residents reported seeing a fire in woods known as Monkey Hill a few hours later.

Police launched a murder investigation after her burned body was discovered by a passer-by the following afternoon.
