MLAs from all parties have stood up in the Assembly to condemn the murder of a man in Belfast.

Bobby Moffett, 43, was shot dead by two masked men on the Shankill Road on Friday.

The SDLP's Alban Maginness said it was an act of terrible violence and called for a report by the justice minister.

Mr Maginness said if allegations were true that the murder was carried out by members of the UVF, then serious questions had to be answered.

Mr Maginness said: "Is it still a paramilitary organisation?

"Is it still actively involved in violence or is that organisation no longer extant as a paramilitary organisation and there are elements who purport to represent that organisation and carried out allegedly this murder?"

At least two masked gunmen wearing fluorescent jackets shot Mr Moffett at the corner of Conway Street and the Shankill Road, and he died in hospital.

Police do not believe the shooting was sectarian. There is speculation that Mr Moffett may have been involved in a fight with a member of the UVF in recent days - but this may have been a personal dispute rather than anything to do with the organisation.
