A controlled explosion has been carried out in a Ballymena housing estate .

Families were forced to leave their homes in Dunclug Gardens overnight after a suspicious object was discovered near a car.

Army bomb experts were called to the scene and families were moved to a nearby community centre.

Police said the object was not suspicious. The alert had been raised after reports of suspicious activity early on Wednesday morning.
