Armed robbers 'posed as police'

A man was threatened with what he thought was a gun by two men posing as police officers in Lancashire.

The man was driving on Crosshall Brow in Ormskirk on Tuesday when a silver Vectra began flashing its lights.

Thinking it was an undercover police car, the man pulled over but two men got out and one pulled out what is believed to have been a gun.

They smashed the driver's door window and demanded the victim hand over cash, before they drove off.

Police said the man had just withdrawn money from an ATM at the Concourse in Skelmersdale, and it was on the passenger seat.

The men are described as white, about 25 years old and were wearing gloves.

One was wearing navy jeans and a t-shirt made of shiny material in different colours.

Det Sgt David Webb said: "This was a terrifying incident and the victim has been left incredibly shaken by what has happened, although, thankfully, he wasn't physically hurt.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have witnessed suspicious activity at the Concourse shopping centre to contact police as a matter of urgency.

Anyone with information should contact police.
