Final stage of Accrington's Victorian market revamp
The final stage of Accrington Market's £2m refurbishment is under way following the removal of the last of its old stalls.
The Hyndburn Council project has already seen the upper part of the Victorian market hall transformed into a business and retail zone.
Councillor Marleen Haworth, member for markets, described the removal of the last stall as a "historic day".
The refurbishment began in 2009 with repairs to the building's roof.
Speaking as the last stall was knocked down, Mrs Haworth said: "This is an historic day in the life of the market, and is a real turning point for its future.
"The last market stall has now gone, but throughout the whole project we have taken great pains to keep the original features, whilst bringing the market bang up to date for modern day shopping."
Work is continuing on the new look interior, which is expected to be revealed in a ceremony on 26 June.
