A man has died in a "ferocious" early-morning fire in a flat in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow.

Firefighters attempted to rescue the man from the first floor flat at Langbar Crescent at about 0515 BST.

But he had already succumbed to the effects of smoke when they found him in the living room.

Strathclyde Police said they were carrying out an investigation into the cause of the fatal blaze alongside the fire and rescue service.
