A teenager died after falling from a top-floor flat during a party in Stockport town centre.

The 17-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries in the fall from Textilis House off Wellington Street in the early hours of Sunday.

He was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital but died a short time later.

A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death will take place later and investigations are continuing.

The boy, whose name has not been released, is believed to have fallen about 15m (49ft) from a balcony at the four-storey apartment block.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) interviewed witnesses at the party but his death is not being treated as suspicious.
