Police probe air rifle car damage in Suffolk

Thirty four cars have been damaged during a 10-hour rampage in Suffolk.

The attacks on Sunday started during the early hours in Newmarket and Exning and lasted until mid afternoon, with most vehicles having at least one window smashed or damaged.

Several had a small hole in the glass indicating damage by a ball bearing or air pellet, a police spokesman said.

Suffolk Police received 26 calls about the damage between 0500 and 1500 BST and has appealed for witnesses.

Suspicious vehicles

Insp Neil Ireland said: "This mindless damage has caused a great deal of cost, inconvenience and upset to the owners of these vehicles, some of which were parked on driveways.

"Several of the windows have small holes in them and officers are considering if a bb gun or air rifle could have caused the damage.

"If so, the consequences of these incidents could have been far greater than they were.

"I appeal for any witnesses or anyone who may have seen any suspicious persons or vehicles in the affected areas of Newmarket and Exning overnight between Saturday and Sunday to contact Suffolk Police."
