Son charged with mother's murder on Bute

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother on the Isle of Bute.

Mary McNeil, 73, known locally as Moira, died at her home in Rothesay on Saturday.

David McNeil, 39, from Rothesay, was charged with murdering the pensioner. He was also charged with carrying an offensive weapon.

McNeil made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody. He is expected to appear again on 14 June.

Emergency services were called to a report of a woman seriously injured at Broadcroft Lane at about 1330 BST on Saturday.
