The death of a man whose body was recovered from the River Nene in Northampton is not being treated as suspicious.

The body of the Latvian man, aged in his 30s, was found in the river just off Bedford Road on Monday evening.

Two Latvian men who were found at the river in a distressed state were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Once their accounts had been established they were later released without charge.

Police said a preliminary examination of the body identified no significant injuries and suggested the man drowned and no-one else was involved.

A post-mortem examination will take place and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
